More Random Wonderful Moments

Time is flying by! I had a busy and productive work week.

Last night, we did a Pecha Kucha presentation of our work and life in the 20 slides x 20 seconds format (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total). It was challenging and quite fun.

After that, we went to the river for a dip and sip (sake, of course). Back to the house for dinner and a scary movie. We watched the ridiculous and hysterical Japanese film called " Hausu" (House). If you want a good laugh, get some sake and a bunch of friends and watch it. Here's a preview.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6BMehj59co

This morning (Sunday) we went to a flea market outside of town. It was a bus ride and quite a long walk to get there and it was stinkin' hot. Happily, I managed to score some wonderful old papers and fabric for some work. The vendors were so kind. Every time I bought something, they gave me something extra as a 'gift'. We were NOT looking forward to the trip back to Onishi and to our delight, Doggy, the local hippy baker and his little daughter were there. He gave us a ride back to the house. Tonight, we are having a sashimi party. I know, I know. Don't hate me.

Just another beautiful sunset in Onishi

Obon (Festival of the Souls) is an annual Japanese holiday which commemorates and remembers deceased ancestors. All around the town in mid August, you can find little altars decorated with noodles, fruit and dumplings. Vegetable animals – a horse made from a cucumber or an ox made out of eggplant – serve as symbolic transport for ancestors to return to the otherworld.
