Nakanojo Biennale 2019

On Monday my friend, Hiroyuki Abe, invited us to go with him to Nakanojo for the 7th International Contemporary Art Festival. Hiro and his wife, Natsuka, were at Shiro Oni with me last year. Hiro has 2 documentaries in the exhibition! We are all so proud of him.

The event is located in one of the "most beautiful villages in Japan." Once well known for silk farming, the land is surrounded by high mountain peaks and lush with expansive fields of vegetables and fruit. Traditional buildings and gorgeous old homes dapple the hillside and valleys: a perfect venue for site-specific installations.

With approximately 50 exhibits of sculpture, painting, fiber work and film, we started early. It is said that 4 days are needed to see it all! We had one glorious full day! Enjoy the pictures! Words are not enough.

Stopped for some cold soba noodles with Natsuka, Yo-Chan and Berenika.
